THE SINGING SILENCE by Anne Hamilton

A Review of The Singing Silence, by Leslie Shaw Holzmann

Anne Hamilton, author of The Singing Silence, challenges Dan Brown’s assertion in The Da Vinci Code that the golden ratio has always been a symbol of goddess worship and his suggestion that Leonardo’s fascination with it stemmed from his involvement in the mysteries of a heretical and hidden cult, the Priory of Sion.

I found Anne’s challenge to The Da Vinci Code hopeful given that so many people have embraced the theories in Dan Brown’s novel as historical fact.  While most followers of Christ would consider these theories sacrilege, many new believers are becoming confused by this new pseudo-science.

My brain normally shuts down whenever I try grasping the complexities of more advanced history, math and science.   And, I have a hard time factually discussing these new theories with others.   Even when I held the answers in my hand, I wondered if I would be able to get through The Singing Silence, by Anne Hamilton.

Anne, who lives in Australia, teaches mathematics and that alone was enough to keep me from reading her book.  But, as I held the beautifully bound book with its glossy cover, I became intrigued and read the back jacket.  It reads, “After five hundred years, the wait is finally over.  The silence is broken.  Yes, it’s been five centuries since an Italian friar commissioned that artist from Vinci to illustrate a work of mathematics.  Back then, everyone knew that God had left a thumbprint, a single mathematical mark, throughout all of creation.  How is it that Christians of the first millennium have no idea this mathematical telltale exists, let alone its significance?”

As I opened the book and started to read, I was pulled forward page to page.  Anne’s theories are backed with tons of research and end notes for further study.  Anne has written about mathematical and scientific complexities in a way that even I could grasp what she was saying.  I read the little book in one evening and couldn’t wait to dive into her next one.

I’ve always been in awe of God and the universe He created.  Now after reading her book, I am profoundly inspired by His signature on all creation.

There are intriguing colored pictures throughout this little 64 page pocket book.  It is loaded with amazing concepts about God’s signature in the mathematical ration of 0.618 to 1 (the Golden Ratio) throughout the universe.

It is amazing and wonderful to find so much inspiration in such a small book.  Anne Hamilton is a gifted writer and teacher.  Read The Singing Silence and discover the joy for yourself!
