Prayer opens the door to my spiritual life and is at the center it.  This is

because prayer takes me into the presence of God.  Prayer changes things,

but most of all it changes me.  If I am unwilling to change, I usually give up

praying because the closer I get to God the more I see my need to change.

But, when I pray looking for God's will, His grace is there to help me accept

it.

As part of my course work with Trinity, I've been reading books by men

and women who believed that prayer was the main business of their lives.  I

also believe that, but sometimes struggle with being consistent in becoming

quiet before God each day.  I too often talk to God when I'm in trouble.  Or, I

send up "arrow" prayers as I race through my busy day; cheating myself out

of the richness and adventure of a truly spiritual life.   When I pray I am

liberated from "self" to live for God.  There is nothing more important than

that.

"Lord, teach us to pray."  Luke 11:1
