As a young divorced mom with two babies, I imagine living in endless bliss
on a beach in some remote place. I listen to ocean waves pounding the sand
while my two toddlers play happily nearby. I begin to sense peace, but the
beach must wait for now. I need to get the girls in their car seats and head
off to daycare and then to work. I get there on time, but it always feels like
a race. I reach work with adrenalin pumping and sweaty palms.
Speeding forward 37 plus years . . . the toddlers are now adults . . .
challenges look different, but the reasons for stress continue. I awake and
think, “It is never going to get easier!” Surprisingly, this thought brings
unexpected calm and acceptance. That’s because if it’s never getting easier,
I can’t fix it. If I can’t fix it, I might as well find joy in the simple things
around me.
Mornings these days, coffee in hand, I take in a deep breath, and talk to
God about my day. “How can I serve you today, Lord?” “What should I do
about [fill in the blank]?” In spite of careful planning, the day rarely turns out
as recorded in the Day-Timer near my desk. I might as well let God take over,
since that’s when the journey with Him happens. New inspiration and hope
push back the blackness of hard times and opportunities to bless others come
in spite of the struggles that remain.
It's never easy, but if we climb higher, we’ll get a better view of what life
is really all about.
Mt 6:34 So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble
Mt 7:24 So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts upon them [obeying them] will be like a sensible (prudent, practical, wise) man who built his house upon the rock.
Mt 7:25 And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
